Repeat clients are the best! Unfortunately, many interior designers spend most of their time trying to recruit new clients and forget to reach out to the ones they’ve established a relationship with. You have an established trust and familiarity with repeat clients. Now don’t get me wrong, you should always continue to network, market and grow your business, just don’t forget about your past clients. These clients are the ones who personally give me affirmation of the work I do. If they are hiring my services again that means I met or exceeded their expectations on their last project and would like for me to repeat the magic.
After designing their great room three years ago, my clients approached me about using my services for their master bedroom. Obviously, I just jumped at the opportunity. I already had an idea of what I wanted to do three years ago when I was working on their great room. The idea of using faux alligator wallpaper and lots of textures had been brewing in my head ever since. The vision of a grand yet subtle chandelier in the middle of the room with some statement lighting pendents flanking an oversized upholstered headboard dawdled in my mind, as well.
Whether you dream of a calm and restful sanctuary or a luxurious hotel-style master bedroom, or a hybrid of both like the one I featured here, your home’s master should feel like an oasis. It should be a relaxing space where you can go to escape life’s constant pressures, especially during these pandemic times. My clients were very specific that they wanted a low-maintenance but sophisticated bedroom. Another request was to have a functional seating area with a comfy armchair in order to curl up with a good book. I believe it is important to have that separate space to sit in when you don’t feel like lounging in bed.
Now let’s bring it back to the original ideas that had been floating around in my head when I was designing this master bedroom. Earlier, I mentioned that I envisioned a beautiful alligator wallpaper as an accent wall. The color that I kept gravitating towards was a cobalt blue hue. I presented a sample to my clients and they loved it! Not only did I show them a sample of the faux alligator wallpaper but also a sample of a gold wallpaper that I wanted to install on the tray ceiling of their master. There was some reluctance since we already were thinking about installing a gold chandelier and they were worried it might be a bit too bold. I assured them that the other details that I have up my sleeve will definitely tone down and soften the design. The multiple soft layers of bedding and pillows, along with a bone colored rug and elements of moss and wood are the perfect touches to transform this master bedroom to a peaceful sanctuary.
