“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, yule-tide carols being sung by a choir” …oh wait it’s July not December!  July has arrived and is now on it’s way out.  Before it ends there is an unofficial holiday that I would merrily like to bring to your attention.  With the help of my kiddos of course this underrated holiday is, Navidad en Julio!  Well, you can’t actually change the season now but the closest you can get to doing so is reduce the time left for Christmas and celebrate it now, in July.  Many of us have been celebrating this “holiday” in July.  These days, Christmas in July seems to be mainly a time for retail sales.  It has really become more of  a tool in the retail industry to help boost sales than an actual celebrated holiday.  Restaurants, nightclubs, car dealerships and as I am drafting this blog post a television commercial for home renovations is offering a Christmas in July special!  It would be safe to say it has become highly commercialized.  However, as I previously mentioned many of us choose to take advantage of this “Yulefest” to spend time with our loved ones.  Especially if our family members are scattered across the states.  After all July is a summer month and the weather is a lot more favorable for a vacation, rather in the winter when long distance travel could be grueling and frosty.  This is primarily why I chose this theme for our annual photo shoot with my kiddos.  I get to spend two and a half weeks out of the year with them and I want to make double sure that they head back home thinking, It’s a Wonderful Life.  Christmas in July is a festive fun way to satisfy the need for cooler weather and holiday cheer that many of us enjoy during the hottest month of the year.
